Dr. Ashok Patel established the Memory and Aging Center of New Jersey to provide specialized treatment and support for those affected by memory loss, in our local community and beyond.

Ashok Patel, MD, is a board-certified Geriatric Psychiatrist

and has been practicing for over 20 years at Bio Behavioral Health (BBH) in Toms River, New Jersey. He divides his professional time between clinical care and pharmaceutical research, both of which have helped him to develop a strong referral base in the local community. As Medical Director of BBH, Dr. Patel has been the Principal Investigator on over 100 studies in nursing-home, clinic, hospital, and office settings. His training at Cornell University Medical College began his work with Alzheimer’s Disease and Depression, and his experiences expanded to include studies on Anxiety, Sleep Disorders, Autoimmune Disorders, Arthritis, Pulmonary Disorders, and Bipolar Disorders.

Dr. Patel graduated from Kasturba Medical College in India and completed his psychiatric residency at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in New York, where he went on to become Chief Resident. Following residency, he completed his Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at Cornell University Medical College in New York. Dr. Patel has since held faculty positions at both Cornell University Medical College and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School as an Instructor of Psychiatry. He is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry, the NJ Psychiatric Association Geriatric Committee and the Indo-American Psychiatric Association. His involvements with these organizations, his clinical care, and his pharmaceutical research have granted him the opportunity to present over 200 presentations covering multiple diseases and psychopharmacology.

Dr. Patel recieved the 2011-2012 Alzheimer’s Association New Jersey Chapter Humanitarian of the Year Award and the 2014 Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for skill and compassion in the practice of medicine.

Judith Kern, APN-C

Judy has worked with Dr. Patel for over 15 years and brings over 20 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) to Bio Behavioral Health. She has served as Sub Investigator on numerous clinical trials, including studies on Rheumatoid Arthritis, Depression, Osteoarthritis, and Sleep, but she is particularly interested in Alzheimer’s as her mother was affected by the disease. Judy serves as a rater for all studies at Bio Behavioral Health as she is qualified for several scales. She is fascinated by determining where a patient is on the scale and how it affects their activities of daily living. She is also responsible for screening study subjects and following up with subjects appropriately in compliance with study procedures. Outside of clinical trials at Bio Behavioral Health, Judy ensures that all patients are cared for on a daily basis. She believes that patient education is important and her main objective is resolution of symptoms so that each patient may function at a higher level and live a better life.

 

Susan Finkelstein,LCSW

Susan joined Bio Behavioral Health in 2007 and has since served as a Psychotherapist for all clients. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has 35 years of experience in the field, among all ages, individuals, and groups.

Nancy Schindler

Nancy has functioned as Clinical Research Site Manager and Regulatory Administrator for over 100 Phase II-IV clinical trials at Bio Behavioral Health since 2008. As Clinical Research Site Manager, Nancy is responsible for supervising and guiding the research staff in all areas of study coordination as well as managing operations for study protocols, including timelines and personnel resources. As Regulatory Administrator, she maintains Bio Behavioral Health’s internal quality assurance at a high level and ensures that all clinical research trials follow FDA regulation and ICH/GCP/IRB guidelines. Furthermore, Nancy recruits new studies to the Bio Behavioral Health clinical research site location.

 

Cherie Camporeale

Cherie began coordinating Alzheimer’s trials at Bio Behavioral Health in 2015 and brings 3 years research experience with her from Takeda Pharmaceutical Company and 6 years pharmaceutical experience from a behavioral health hospital. She is formally trained in Good Clinical Practice and has IATA certification. She is responsible for screening study subjects, dispensing and accounting for study medication, and following up with subjects in compliance with study procedures.

 

DAWN ARNONE

Dawn began working with Bio Behavioral Health in 2015 and joined the team coordinating Alzheimer's trials in 2016.  She is a licensed nurse and certified dementia practitioner and brings with her 10 years experience working with Alzheimer's patients.  She is formally trained in Good Clinical Practice for research trials, various electronic data capture (EDC) and has IATA certifications.  She is also responsible for screening study subjects, dispensing and accounting for study medication and following up with subjects appropriately in compliance with study procedures.

 

JILL NICOLOSI, LCSW

Jill began working at Bio Behavioral Health in 2016.  She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and serves as a therapist for clients.  She has 4 years of experience in Crisis Intervention, individual, family and group therapy.  Additionally, Jill serves as the primary rater for Alzheimer's and Depression clinical trials and is formally trained in Good Clinical Practice.  Jill also conducts memory screenings for new clients and collaborates with Dr. Patel along with study coordinators in assessing their needs.

 

BINIta SHRESTHA

Binita, an International Medical Graduate, working as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Bio Behavioral Health in 2016, began coordinating trials in Alzheimer's Disease and Migraine.  She is formally trained in Good Clinical Practice, Electronic Data Capture and has IATA Certification.  Binita is proficient as a rater for all memory scales in Alzheimer’s clinical trials and scales for Migraines.  She is also responsible for screening study subjects, dispensing and accounting for study medication, and following up with subjects appropriately in compliance with study procedures.

 

 

Laurie Buchansky

Laurie began working at Bio Behavioral Health in 2014 and has joined the coordinating team full time in 2016.  She is a licensed nurse with 12 years experience in an acute care setting for individuals with mental illness and Alzheimer's Disease.  She is formally trained in Good Clinical Practice for research trials, various electronic data capture (EDC) and has IATA certifications.  She is also responsible for screening study subjects, dispensing and accounting for study medication and following up with subjects appropriately in compliance with study procedures.

Jackie McIntyre

Jackie joined the Memory & Aging Center of New Jersey in 2014 as the Director of Marketing and Community Liaison.  She has over 10 years experience in working with Alzheimer's patients and their families.  She's a graduate of Towson University with a BS in Communications and Marketing.

DiANE Kennedy

Diane joined the Memory & Aging Center of New Jersey in 1999 as the Office Receptionist.  She has been with Dr. Patel for 20 years and is an integral part of the day to day operations of the center.

Bobbie  macnaughton

Bobbie joined the Memory & Aging Center of New Jersey in 2016 as an Office Receptionist.

Cindy Sorrentino

Cindy joined the Memory & Aging Center of New Jersey in 2016 as Billing Coordinator.

Charlene Sinclair

Charlene joined the Memory & Aging Center of New Jersey in 2016 as a Medical Technician.
