So as Shirley Temple sang..."Animal Crackers in My Soup", my dad sang "Animal Crackers in my Air Conditioner Vents!" That childhood memory came back to me as I packed last night. I am leaving tomorrow for my second road trip to Syracuse, New York in only two weeks. My daughter will be attending attending Syracuse University in the fall, which makes her 17, which makes me think I won't find Animal Crackers in my vents. My road trip memory goes something like this... It was in the early 1970's, I was about 5 years old and my brother was 7 years old. We were traveling to Washington, D.C. for a family vacation - it was a very hot day in July. One of our first family road trips. As we drove down Pennsylvania Avenue, I can clearly remember my father, putting the AC on blast - the highest it could go. My brother and I were taking in the sights, sitting on the edge of our car seats and (I'm pretty sure we weren't buckled up and my father was probably smoking lol) , getting excited to see the White House. Out of nowhere, we began to get blasted withpieces of lions, tigers, bears - crackers that is. There were Animal Crackers flying all about the car. We thought it would be funny to see what would happen if we "stuff" in the holes on the dashboard. We started the experiment before we left New Jersey. Let's just say, we were the only ones who thought it was funny and our trip to Washington D.C started off more like a Circus!
